When we launched our original Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 serum back in 2016, not many people had heard of hyaluronic acid. Despite being a well-studied, commercially-known skincare ingredient with powerful anti-aging properties, it had yet to make headlines.

All of that quickly changed. By 2018—two years after we launched the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 (Original Formulation) hydrating serum as part of our mission to democratize skincare—Google searches for hyaluronic acid increased by 85%.

Now, language once reserved for skincare enthusiasts and industry experts has trickled down into the mainstream, with ingredients and formulations like hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and vitamin B5 serums becoming staple ingredients for any skincare regimen.

As interest in hyaluronic acid grew, so did our family of hyaluronic acid formulations. Although our original hyaluronic acid serum remains a favourite of many, our community also provided valuable feedback. So we returned to the lab to reformulate.

Now, we celebrate that work and introduce you to our Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 (with Ceramides).

We began this process in July 2022. It took our formulators just over a year to carefully source and select the right blend of existing and new ingredients, combining them in different ways to craft the ideal hyaluronic acid formulation. And because the texture of any hyaluronic acid-based serum is closely connected to the hyaluronic acid itself, we tested different ratios of molecular weights to achieve a perfect balance between effective hydration and a new, lightweight texture.

It took 140 prototypes to evolve into the next generation of hydration. But after measuring viscosity, independently assessing texture, and rigorous testing, we did it.

Our Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 (with Ceramides) formulation is a non-tacky, lightweight hydrating serum that instantly smooths and plumps skin.

We increased the number of hyaluronic acid types in this formulation, from 4 to 5, for hydration across multiple layers of the skin’s surface.

• Low, medium, and high-molecular weights: A combination of molecular sizes that sit at different levels of the skin's surface.


• Hyaluronic acid crosspolymer: A form of hyaluronic acid that forms a protective mesh on the skin’s surface.


• Hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid: A low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid added to the formulation.

These work alongside added ceramides, which are naturally occurring skin-like lipids that help restore the skin’s moisture barrier and lock in hydration. Together, the hyaluronic acids and ceramides replenish the skin’s hydration levels, leaving it softer and smoother after 1 week.

We designed our Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 formulation (with Ceramides) to deeply hydrate skin, boost elasticity, and target signs of aging. Testing of the reformulated serum shows*:
