What are Face Oils?
100% Fermented Rose Hip Seed Oil

Oils are typically a combination of organic molecules including triglycerides, fatty acids and wax esters. They are also well known for containing key molecules like vitamins and antioxidants, which can help to add additional benefits and skin support.

All oils act as emollients to help trap moisture inside the skin and keep skin hydrated. Additional key molecules can help protect, brighten and deliver a radiant appearance.

FAQs about Face Oils:

Can I use face oils even if I have oily skin?

Yes! You can use face oils even if you have oily skin. However, if you do have oily skin, we recommend oils that have a lighter texture and consistency.

Can I mix oils with my moisturizers?

You can mix oils with your moisturizer however, to get the most out of face oils, it is recommended that you apply them prior to applying your moisturizer.

Can face oils replace moisturizers?

While there may be certain face oils and moisturizers that have similar ingredients, one should not replace the other. Face oils should be used as an added boost of moisture rather than in replace of a moisturizer itself.

Both oils and moisturizers will hydrate your skin however work in slightly different ways. Moisturizers often contain humectants which help to attract water as well as emollients which help to trap water inside. Face oils act as emollients and can therefore be used in addition to moisturizers.

Do oils cause breakouts?

Oils themselves are unlikely to cause breakouts. The Ordinary has tested our oils and they have proven to be non-comedogenic. Despite this, each individual may respond differently to different ingredients and we would recommend doing a patch test before trying any new skin care formulations.

Whether you’re looking to add moisture, seal it in, or target specific skin concerns, there’s likely a face oil that can help. Explore more oils from The Ordinary (to link to our oils) or build a skincare regimen that includes them here.
