What It Does

Sodium hyaluronate is a derivative of hyaluronic acid with water-binding properties, used to improve skin hydration & elasticity, as well as the look of fine lines and wrinkles. It can also be used to aid with the delivery of active technologies within a formula.

Hyaluronic Acid Under The Microscope

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a glycosaminoglycan (GAG) that can be naturally found within the dermis and epidermis. It is a fundamental molecule in supporting skin hydration and elasticity due to it's strong abilities to bind to water. Hyaluronic Acid can vary in molecular weight (molecule size) from 0.5 - 6 Megadaltons in cosmetics. Due to it's abilities to support and improve skin hydration, it has been studied for its abilities to reduce the appearance of wrinkle depth. Hyaluronic Acid levels within skin decline with age, possibly contributing to the noticeable concerns associated with aging such as increased wrinkle depth and loss of elasticity. Sodium Hyaluronate is the salt form of Hyaluronic Acid, and is the most commonly used form in skincare products due to it's improved stability in formulations.
