Don’t buy today.

If you’re reading this, you already know that we’re closed today. Both our website and our cozy stores won’t be making any sales on Black Friday.

We think it’s important to tell you why.

Buying one wrong product probably won’t impact your life. You might use it for a bit, let it sit in your cabinet, or throw it away. But if we all did that, the discarded products would quickly pile up. In fact, if all of DECIEM’s customers bought one wrong product from DECIEM today, the total waste of each empty stacked up could be over 7,600 feet high. That’s taller than 7 Eiffel Towers. If we were to look at the total weight of the waste involved, this would amount to 880 kg per day. That’s roughly equivalent to the weight of seven baby elephants.

Slow has never been more urgent.

The frenzy of Black Friday breeds a pressure to buy products urgently, which can result in in excessive impulse purchasing. It creates a culture of want over need, and can contribute to unnecessary excess waste.

We know firsthand how much we can contribute to increased waste. Closing our stores each Black Friday is our way to communicate the importance of shopping slowly to consumers. It is simply our way of trying to communicate to people the importance of shopping slowly. Because slow has never been more urgent.

No one regrets putting more time into making a good decision.

And always remember, shop slowly - starting tomorrow.
