O: What’s your favourite way to unwind outside of work?
Paul: I love anything creative. I spend a lot of my free time drawing or making 3D art. Fun fact, I also play a little piano. It’s one of my favourite ways to unwind and recharge.
Our team at The Ordinary is full of skincare experts and enthusiasts. We wanted to learn more about their skin stories, daily regimens, and tips for targeting their top skin concerns.
Curious to know more, we asked. Now we’re sharing their insider answers with you. Meet Paul Blatchford, Associate Manager on our Customer Happiness team.
O: What’s your favourite way to unwind outside of work?
Paul: I love anything creative. I spend a lot of my free time drawing or making 3D art. Fun fact, I also play a little piano. It’s one of my favourite ways to unwind and recharge.
O: What’s your skin type and main skin concerns?
Paul: I have combination and sensitive skin. My main concerns are aging well, addressing redness and sensitivity, and dehydration.
O: Tell us about your relationship with skincare over the years.
Paul: It’s been a bumpy ride, pun absolutely intended. As a teen and young adult, I struggled with severe cystic acne and tried just about everything, from over-the-counter remedies to prescriptions. Thankfully, my skin has mostly cleared. But that journey is what sparked my love for skincare. Now, I’m completely obsessed. I’m the friend who helps everyone build a routine, recommends products, and even creates regimens for them (yes, even outside of work).

O: How do you adapt your skincare routine for specific concerns or situations?
Paul: I've got a product for everything. If my skin is sensitized, I bring out my NIOD Modulating Glucosides. Breakouts call for Salicylic Acid 2% Masque. I’ll also switch my cleanser and moisturizer based on the season. For example, Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan for summer and Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA for fall and winter.
O: What’s your favourite formulation at The Ordinary and why?
Paul: If I had to pick one, it would be Multi-Peptide + Copper Peptides 1%. It was the first product I ever used from The Ordinary, long before I worked here. I saw instant results. I love that it targets multiple signs of aging all at once. This was before I graduated to NIOD's Copper Amino Isolate Serum 3 1:1.
O: What’s a formulation at The Ordinary that deserves more attention?
Paul: Marine Hyaluronics. So hydrating and lightweight. Perfect for adding multiple layers or prepping the skin for more product.
O: What’s a skincare tip you live by?
Paul: Listen to your skin day by day and adjust accordingly.
O: Do you have a clever way you use or combine products from The Ordinary?
Paul: I love adding a drop of 100% Cold-Pressed Virgin Marula Oil to my Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA in the winter to really lock everything in and give a lovely glow. Marula oil is also great for the beard.
O: What has been your biggest a-ha moment while working at The Ordinary?
Paul: Working at The Ordinary has taught me that transparency in ingredients, understanding your skin’s needs, and keeping things simple can be just as powerful as an extensive regimen. Also, education! When you understand what you’re using and why, it makes such a difference in the way you approach skincare.
